I'm here! and top five things I'm struggling with adjusting to so far ...

Well, the good news is that I am here! Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts. I'm loving being here ... and there is 10 MB/sec wireless internet all throughout campus! ... though there are some quirky things about being an Australian newly arrived in America ...

Top five things I'm struggling adjusting to at the moment:
  1. Cars with the driver's seat on the left. Everytime somebody gives me a lift, I find myself walking towards the driver's side (the passenger side in Australia). Leading to the inevitable question, "John, are you driving?"
  2. Having a room with a window right next to the court yard. I've got a great room ... 20 metres from the gym (no excuses now) and right next to where everyone hangs out (it's just like living next to Gordon library, only better!) ... I'll send some photos soon ... but, the only problem is, my bedroom has a huge window where pretty much everyone can see into my room. Which is fine, except when I forget to put the blinds up when changing ... I better get used to that one quick! =)
  3. Being new ... in a place where everyone else is new. The great thing about Schwab house - where I'm staying - is that you have 200 brand new MBA students who are all new, all really cool (so I'm told), and all really wanting to get to know everyone. Unfortunately, that's also the not-so-great thing about Schwab. Wherever you go, whenever you walk past someone, you kind of feel obligated to say hi, introduce yourself, ask the same standard questions about what country you're from, try to memorise another name, etc. Whilst I really like meeting new people, I've actually started avoiding going outside/common walking routes to stop the endless introductions ... at least for the moment anyway!!!
  4. Not having a car of my own. It's leading me to "Stockpile" when I go shopping, buying a whole lot of food "just in case" I need it, and can't get out to buy more. Frozen burritos, pizza, canned fruit ... mmmmm
  5. Having to clean up after myself. Enough said! =)

God bless
john
