People, I currently find myelf of all places in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
This may seem completely random for someone doing foreign aid work in remote Africa - very true. But, here I am, in Brazil's biggest city (over 20 million people crammed into 150,000 hectares!) - the 3rd biggest city in the world behind Tokyo and Mexico City). This city is BIG - with well over 10,000 apartment blocks, and a CBD that seems to go on forever, on and on and on.
Of course, that's not really answering the question. How did I end up to be here?
Conversation last week with my boss:
Boss: "I'm going to Brazil with this official delegation next week."
Me: (jokingly) "Hey - well if you need company or a chicken expert, you know where to look."
Boss: "Hang on a sec ... (thinks) ... yeah, would you like to come!"
And that was it! Things sure happened quickly - and, a few days later - I find myself with the Brazil-Mozambique chamber of commerce tour doing research on low cost production of chickens!
The first stop has been Sao Paulo. It's very difficult to fathom how BIG Sao Paulo is. I was taking some photos from the plane - the city went on for ages, as far as the eye could see ... (The blobs here all represent similar high-density housings)
... And on closer inspection ...
This is awesome!
Blessings
john
